He has more than 25 years of experience in applied research, in the areas of real-time distributed embedded systems, industrial networks, wireless sensor networks and their applications in various industry sectors. His current main research interests include Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies.
 
He has been an adjunct faculty member of the Western Greece University of Applied Sciences, teaching industrial informatics, information systems and computer networks. He is the author or co-author of more than 70 scientific publications in international journals, conferences and books, and of more than 110 publicly available or confidential technical reports. He has participated in over 30 European and national research and development projects, either as ESR, ER or Project Manager / PI, and he was the leader and main designer and contributor for the development of numerous industrial prototype systems.
 
He has served in the past as Guest Editor in MDPI Electronics Journal, Special Issue in "Real-Time Embedded Systems", as Guest Editor in Sensors Journal, Special Issue in "Real-Time Sensor Networks and Systems for the Industrial IoT", as a reviewer in IEEE, MDPI and other journals and magazines, and as PC/TPC or panel member in many IEEE and other conferences and workshops. He has also served as an elected member of the board of ERCIM (European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics), as a member of the first Steering Committee of eTEE and a member of the first Steering Committee of Athena RC Researchers Association.
 
He is currently a member of the board of ERCIM (Treasurer, 2020-2022), an Editorial Board member in Sensors Journal, section Sensor Networks, and a member of the Scientific Board of ISI.
 
He is also a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and a Senior Member of IEEE.
