The Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Aephoria (AE4RIA) actively participated in the Regional Green Economy Forum (RGEF) 2025, held on 24 and 25 July in Tangier, Morocco. This leading regional initiative convenes policymakers, thought leaders, and innovators committed to accelerating the transition of cities toward carbon neutrality.

Representing AE4RIA, Dr. Ioannis Arampatzidis and Dr. Anni Triantafyllidou contributed their expertise to two high-level panel discussions, playing a significant role in advancing the dialogue on sustainable urban transformation and the broader green transition.

Panel 1: Integrating National Commitments – Pathways and Policy for Europe’s Climate Neutrality
This panel, co-organized by AE4RIA, brought together distinguished experts including Dr. Ruth Kattumuri, Dr. Kinyanjui J. Koimbori, and Dr. Massamba Thioye, with moderation by Dr. Anni Triantafyllidou.
Dr. Ioannis Arampatzidis presented insights on the deep structural changes required in energy, agriculture, and natural resource management to achieve Europe’s climate neutrality by 2050. Key findings from the SDSN Global Climate Hub assessment of the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) of 35 European countries were shared, highlighting the challenges, barriers, and emerging opportunities for a just, coordinated, and resilient transition.

Panel 2: Financing the Green Transition
In this session, moderated by Dr. Amal Benaïssa (Bank of Africa), Dr. Anni Triantafyllidou joined Abdoulaye Daffe (West African Development Bank) and Said Chakri (EDIC Consulting) to explore strategies for mobilizing finance to support green projects and sustainable urban development.
Discussions examined practical mechanisms for securing public and private funding, innovative financial tools, and the key opportunities and obstacles that cities face in advancing green transformation initiatives.

AE4RIA’s participation at RGEF 2025 underscored its commitment to fostering knowledge exchange, promoting science-based policy, and supporting actionable pathways for achieving climate-neutral and sustainable cities.
