Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Athena and the Hellenic Open University

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Hellenic Open University (HOU) and the Athena Research Center on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the HOU offices in Athens. Professor Yiannis Emiris, President of the Athena Research Center, and Professor Ioannis Kalavrouziotis, President of the Hellenic Open University, sealed their commitment to jointly develop scientific, research, and other initiatives aimed at generating new knowledge, connecting it with productive sectors, and promoting entrepreneurship. Professor Chrysostomos Stylios, Director of the Industrial Systems Institute (ISI), who initiated this collaboration, also represented Athena. 
 
The collaboration between the two institutions aims to enhance the quality of research and increase the competitiveness of both organizations by promoting their educational, social, and research efforts and contributing to the development of societies at local, regional, national, and European levels.
 
The two parties committed to:
  • Jointly overseeing research programs with objectives that fall within the domain of connecting knowledge and innovation with industry and enhancing entrepreneurship.
  • Sharing, utilizing, and enhancing infrastructure to support research and collaboration needs.
  • Organizing training programs at the HOU’s Center for Lifelong Learning (KEDIVIM) by Athena researchers.
  • Enhancing knowledge transfer on topics of mutual interest between Athena researchers and HOU faculty members.
  • Organizing scientific dissemination activities to link research and innovation with industry and strengthen entrepreneurship. 

Athena’s President stated: "At Athena, we firmly believe that outreach and collaborations with a common focus can have a multiplying effect on the utilization of research and the intensity of knowledge transfer. Partnerships with academic institutions are fundamental to strengthening science, research, and academic knowledge as a whole. The complementarity of such collaborations can further the development of local communities and beyond".
