On February 12, 2026, students from Doukas School participating in the Girls Code It Better (GCIB) Sprint program visited the facilities of Athena Research Center as part of an educational initiative aimed at familiarizing them with research and contemporary technological applications.
The students were welcomed by the President of the Board of Directors and General Director of Athena Research Center, Professor Ioannis Emiris, who presented the Center’s structure and main areas of activity and engaged in discussion with the students, answering questions about research and modern technological applications.

Katerina Servi, archaeologist-museologist, author, and collaborating researcher at Athena Research Center, then presented her work as a creator of digital experiences, focusing on digital storytelling in the field of culture, as well as on its applications and evaluation methods.

This was followed by a presentation by George Moschovis, PhD candidate and scientific associate of the Archimedes Unit at Athena Research Center, who demonstrated an artificial intelligence application in the biomedical field supporting the automatic prediction of medical examinations and the generation of preliminary diagnoses from medical images. He also presented the Panhellenic Student Artificial Intelligence Competition, co-organized for the second consecutive year by the Archimedes Unit, encouraging students to participate.

Subsequently, Ioanna Grypari, collaborating researcher at Athena Research Center, presented one of Athena’s five active spin-offs, Opix, which operates in the field of policy and business consulting, providing innovative services that leverage big data and AI solutions to optimally support organizational decision-making.

Finally, Ms Eleni Petra, Head of the Women’s Innovation Unit, presented the Unit’s activities as well as the Code4Europe initiative, which promotes young people’s engagement, particularly that of girls, in the development of digital tools and technologies.
