Talk by Prof. Chrysostomos Stylios at the Hellenic Parliament, Special Permanent Committee on Research and Technology

Professor Chrysostomos Stylios, Director of the Industrial Systems Institute (ISI) at the Athena Research Center, was invited to speak at the Special Permanent Committee on Research and Technology of the Hellenic Parliament on Monday, October 7, 2024, during a special session titled "Technology Transfer from Research Centers to Society - Challenges and Prospects".
 
In his speech, Prof. Chrysostomos Stylios presented the activities of ISI, its research directions, human resources, and the institute's contributions to society and regional development. He emphasized that ISI focuses on both fundamental research and experimental development, which has direct applications in industries and businesses, as well as in all facets of society, regional organizations, and local government.
 
He highlighted the achievements of ISI in advancing technologies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of industry while simultaneously driving the digital transformation of businesses and organizations and fostering innovation. He analyzed the strategic goals of the Institute, including consolidating its leading position in its research areas, achieving excellence in research, and developing innovative high-value products and services to convert knowledge into services and products that benefit the economy, regional economy, and society at large.
 
He stressed that a primary objective of the Institute is to increase funded research and development projects, boost publications, generate new patents, and create new spin-off companies. Future goals include increasing research productivity, enhancing the public presence of the Institute, establishing a leading role in the digital transformation of industries, and leveraging Greek and European funding.
 
In closing his speech, Prof. Chrysostomos Stylios addressed factors that hinder the upward trajectory of the Institute, such as extensive bureaucracy and the lack of regular and targeted funding.
