Student Activities on Robotics and Science by the Research Teams of the Robotics Institute and HERON

24-03-2025

In March 2025, the research teams of the Robotics Institute and HERON of the Athena Research Center carried out a series of activities aimed at informing and engaging students in science, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

On March 10, at the 6th Primary School of Vrilissia, researchers spoke with 3rd and 6th grade students about what research is, the importance of women’s participation in science, and the role of artificial intelligence in today’s society. The event was held in the context of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11) and International Women’s Day (March 8). Students also had the chance to see and interact with Zeno, a robot that expresses emotions through facial expressions.

Additionally, researchers participated in the FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) competition in Thessaloniki (March 8–9) and the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Central Greece Regional in Lamia (March 15). Students learned about the applications of robotics in education and research, as well as the fields in which HERON is active. The Robobo educational robot was also presented — a platform that combines a simple robotic base with a smartphone, designed to introduce students to artificial intelligence.
