On Tuesday, 10 February 2026, Athena Research Center had the pleasure of hosting representatives from Cardiff University and its Digital Transformation Innovation Institute (DTII). The delegation was led by Dr Yulia Cherdantseva, Director of DTII and Co-Director of the Hartree Centre Cardiff Hub, and included Dr Angharad Watson, Centre Manager of DTII, and Dr Kathrin Jones, Head of the School of Computer Science at Cardiff University.
Dr Yulia Cherdantseva presented Cardiff University’s activities in cybersecurity, highlighting initiatives that support diversity in the field.
Dr Angharad Watson outlined DTII’s work in empowering SMEs through AI and data analytics, presenting its service portfolio and achievements to date in the UK and internationally.
Dr Kathrin Jones provided an overview of the research sections, entities and strategic priorities of the School of Computer Science.
From the Athena side, Eleni Petra, Head of the Women’s Innovation Unit, presented Athena Research Center and its key research activities, highlighting ongoing initiatives in digital transformation, data management and artificial intelligence. She also introduced the DataGEMS project outlining its objectives and technological approach. In addition, she briefly presented the Code4Europe EU project, focusing on its mission to expand digital education and empower the next generation with programming and technology skills.
The meeting concluded in a positive and forward-looking spirit, setting the basis for future cooperation.
