Once again, the Athena Research Center supports the next generation of scientists and the global data ecosystem.

 

The 6th ACM Europe Summer School on Data Science was successfully held from June 30 to July 4, 2025, at the Grand Serai Hotel in the center of Ioannina, Greece. The event brought together 47 students and early-career researchers from Greece, Europe, America and Asia, for an intensive week of lectures, hands-on labs, and social activities.

 

The Summer School was co-organized by the ACM, the ACM Europe Council, the University of Ioannina, and the Athena Research Center and its Archimedes Unit. The scientific chairs were the UoI Professor Nikos Mamoulis, and the Athena Research Directors Georgia Koutrika and Alkis Simitsis.

 

The program featured courses and workshops in areas such as graph databases, network analysis, sustainable machine learning, data stream processing, and data reduction. The keynote talks by distinguished researchers and the creative social events in the city of Ioannina were among the highlights of the week.
