Visit of the Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, to the Athena Research Center in Xanthi
The Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Development, Mr. Lazaros Tsavdaridis, visited the facilities of the Athena Research Center in Xanthi on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The Minister and the Deputy Minister were welcomed by the Director of the Institute for Language and Speech Processing of Athena, Dr. Vassilis Katsouros together with the entire staff of the Center.
Dr. Katsouros referred to the contribution of Athena’s work in research, innovation, and digital technologies, as well as to the Center’s pivotal role in the region. He emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of the Center, the significant research results it produces, and its highly qualified research staff. Mr. Papastergiou referred to the importance of decentralization, acknowledged the high value of Athena for the region and its development, and congratulated its staff for their work, while Mr. Tsavdaridis highlighted the importance of research and innovation for transforming the country’s production model.
Subsequently, Dr. Katsouros guided the Minister and the Deputy Minister through the facilities and laboratories of Athena, where they had the opportunity to speak with the researchers and be informed about the latest technological developments and applications. The researchers presented a series of innovative projects, and demonstrations of important research results were carried out, highlighting the Center’s capabilities in developing cutting-edge digital solutions.
