Professor Ioannis Emiris, President and General Director of the Athena Research Center from 2021 to 2025, participated as a speaker at the international Bio3 Forum 2025, highlighting Greece’s potential in the rapidly evolving field of biotech in the era of artificial intelligence. This five-day conference brought together leading representatives from the government, academia, industry, and distinguished members of the Greek diaspora, covering a wide range of topics in biotechnology, the bioeconomy, and artificial intelligence.

 

Within the thematic session “The AI-Powered Health and Drug Discovery Era” on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Prof. Emiris delivered his talk titled: “Is AI fulfilling its promise towards the Greek Biotech and Bioeconomy ecosystem?” His presentation highlighted both the opportunities and the challenges associated with the adoption of artificial intelligence in Greek biotechnology and the bioeconomy, emphasizing the role of research and innovation in building a sustainable and competitive ecosystem.

 

The session was chaired by Δρ Γιώργος Παυλόπουλος, Διευθυντής Έρευνας (Βιοπληροφορική), ΕΚΕΒΕ «Αλέξανδρος Φλέμινγκ», Συνιδρυτής του BioInnovation Greece, and included distinguished speakers from international organizations and companies such as IBM Consulting, Intelligencia AI, and EIT Digital.

 

Through his participation, Prof. Emiris showcased Athena Research Center’s contribution to linking AI with biomedical research and entrepreneurship, strengthening the center’s international outreach and enhancing the global visibility of the Greek scientific community.
