The European Investment Bank supports new infrastructures at "Athena" RC
Construction of new buildings and upgrading of existing facilities

The Ministry of Development & Investments and the Ministry of Finance signed with the European Investment Bank (EIB) on November 24, 2022, new program contracts amounting to 119 million euros to support 6 Research Centers of the country, and "Athena" RC is among them.
The program contracts provide for the support of the investment program in the form of a 25-year low-interest loan, covering 50% of the investment, while the remaining amount for the upgrade and expansion of the Research Centers will be allocated from the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
More specifically, the agreement includes the support of the construction of multiple research infrastructures, the upgrading and expansion of existing facilities, as well as the supply of state-of-the-art technological, laboratory and scientific equipment.

The General Director and President of "Athena" RC, Ioannis Emiris said: "The new building infrastructures and the upgrading of the existing ones in Athens, Patras and Xanthi, thanks to the loan agreement signed today, will give a particularly important boost at Athena RC., since they will allow our researchers to work without impediments, using advanced equipment, in 5 modern facilities with respect for the environment. "Athena RC, and, in particular, its existing and under-establishment Institutes and Units, will gain a significant advantage in the excellence goals they have set in terms of ICT research, cross-disciplinary innovation, as well as education. This action will make our Center even more competitive in attracting top scientists not only from Greece, but also from abroad."

- Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH)
- Biomedical Sciences Research Centre “Alexander Fleming”
- National Hellenic Research Foundation
- “Athena” Research and Innovation Centre
- Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens
