ESA BIC GREECE: The Incubator Boosting Greek Innovation in Space

17-02-2025

In a recent interview with Naftemporiki, Dr. Jorge Sánchez, co-founder of Corallia and Director of the ESA BIC GREECE incubator, discussed Greece's role in space technology and the innovation emerging from the program. ESA BIC GREECE is part of the European Space Agency’s (ESA) incubator network, aiming to strengthen the Greek space ecosystem by supporting startups operating in this field.

Despite the common perception that Greece lacks a strong presence in space technology, more than 100 Greek entities are involved in ESA programs, contributing to satellite missions and Earth applications. Furthermore, through the Recovery Fund, Greek-owned satellites are currently under development and are expected to be operational after 2026.

The incubator supports startups developing cutting-edge technologies. Among them, CIRCUITS INTEGRATED manufactures microchips for satellite communications, SOLMEYEA develops technology for converting carbon dioxide into astronaut food, and CAIUS utilizes artificial intelligence to map pathways. Operated under Corallia at the Athena Research Center, ESA BIC GREECE demonstrates that Greece can play a key role in the European space sector by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
