The kick-off meeting for DataGEMS took place on January 9–10, 2025, at the Kostis Palamas Building in Athens and was a great success. Representatives from all partner organizations actively participated either in person or remotely during the two-day meeting. Opening remarks were delivered by the EU Project Officer, Enrico Pellizari, the General Secretary of the EOSC Association, Ute Gunsenheimer, and the Chairman of the Board and General Director of the Athena Research Center, Professor Yannis Emiris.

 

Data is a valuable resource that drives innovation and decision-making, improves business processes, and influences science, the environment, health, energy, education, industry, and society at large. However, the ever-expanding sea of data remains largely unexplored and underutilized. The EU-funded project DataGEMS aims to change this by offering a next-generation data discovery and management ecosystem that provides algorithms to make datasets findable, combinable, and explorable.

The DataGEMS project develops cutting-edge technology in data management, natural language processing, and machine learning to discover and analyze diverse datasets, such as tabular data, text documents, knowledge graphs, and images. Its primary goal is to enable the extraction of new insights from vast amounts of complex, heterogeneous datasets while providing user-friendly tools.

 

DataGEMS promotes the findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability (FAIR) of data across key domains such as education, meteorology, and linguistics.
