The Women Innovation Unit of the Athena Research Center took part in an important event dedicated to women in science and those just beginning their scientific careers. The conference, titled “Women in Science 2025”, was held on Friday, May 9th, in the Events Hall of the Administration Building of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). It was co-organized by the NTUA’s Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Committee (GEADC) and the student group Young Minds NTUA Section.
The aim of the conference was to encourage young women in STEM fields, address the challenges they face, and explore ways to build a scientific community with greater gender equality. Through a series of talks by speakers from NTUA, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and the National Centre for Scientific Research "Demokritos", the conference emphasized the importance of mentorship, representation, and structural support for women at all stages of their scientific careers.
A roundtable discussion titled “Encouraging Young Women in STEM” followed, featuring Ms. Eleni Petra, Head of the Innovation Unit for Women, among other participants. The discussion sparked interest regarding the presence of women in STEM fields and the challenges they currently encounter.
Ultimately, the conference inspired the academic community and many young students, encouraging dialogue around equality and networking opportunities for young women.
