The
European Joint Doctorate in "Data Engineering for Data Science" (
DEDS) organizes the
1st DEDS SCHOOL "Ethical and Legal Aspects of Data", 4-8 April 2022, in Athens, Greece. DEDS is jointly organised by Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), Aalborg Universitet (Denmark), and the Athena Research Centre (Greece).
The theme of the school touches upon aspects such as legal definitions of personal data, anonymous data, need-to-know, individuals' rights to their personal data (including EU's GDPR), and legal institutions of recourse.The school's seminars cover topics such as GDPR in the sciences, privacy and data protection, ethics in data science, open data science, fairness and explainability, along with enabling technologies such as security and privacy techniques, federated learning and blockchain technologies, and so on.
The program comprises an excellent assembly of speakers, both from industry and academia, to talk about the problems, the regulations, and the challenges related to the ethical and legal aspects of data technologies.

European Joint Doctorate in "Data Engineering for Data Science" (
DEDS) is designed to develop education, research, and innovation at the intersection of Data Science and Data Engineering. Its core objective is to provide holistic support for the end-to-end management of the full lifecycle of data, from capture to exploitation by data scientists. DEDS operates under the Horizon 2020 - Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2020) framework. It is jointly organised by Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), Aalborg Universitet (Denmark), and the Athena Research and Innovation Centre (Greece).
