The President of Athena, Professor Ioannis Emiris, at an online seminar of the Greek Language Institute on AI in Education

The President of Athena Research Center, Professor Ioannis Emiris, participated in an online seminar organized by the Greek Language Institute on Thursday, March 5, 2026, on the topic “The Role and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Education.”
 
During the seminar, the recorded presentation delivered by Professor Emiris at the International Conference of the Greek Language Institute on the Teaching of Greek as a Second/Foreign Language and Multilingualism, held in June 2025, was screened. The presentation was followed by a live discussion and a question-and-answer session that lasted approximately one hour.
 
The online seminar was attended by 79 educators and instructors of the Greek language from several countries, including South Africa, Egypt, the United States, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and Cyprus. Participants showed strong interest in developments in the field of Artificial Intelligence, particularly regarding its applications in education and language teaching.
 
During the discussion, initiatives and activities of Athena Research Center, and especially those of the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP), were also presented, highlighting their work in the fields of language technology and Artificial Intelligence.
 
The event provided an additional opportunity for dialogue with the international community of Greek language educators and highlighted the growing interest in the potential of Artificial Intelligence technologies in education.
