Maria Giagkou holds a PhD in Linguistics (Department of Philology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), an MSc in Language Technology (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens & National Technical University of Athens) and a bachelor’s degree in Philology (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki).
Her research interests fall within the fields of Language Technology, Language Resources, Corpus Linguistics and Technology-Enhanced Language Learning, having published mainly on computational text processing for the extraction of morphological, syntactic and lexical features and automated readability assessment for Greek L1 and L2 speakers.
As a research associate at the Institute for Language and Speech Processing since 1998, she has participated in more than 20 R&D projects. Maria has acted as a core member of the respective research teams, and she has contributed to attracting national and European funding.
She is currently the project manager of the "Action on CEF Automated Translation Core Service Platform" (ELRC3) (service contract for the European Commission) and the scientific coordinator and project manager for ILSP of the European Language Equality project (ELE, PPPA-LANGEQ-2020).
