V. Katsouros in "Kathimerini of Sunday"

Interview with journalist Tassoula Karaiskaki

01-11-2022

Vassilis Katsouros, Director of the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) and Vice-President of "Athena" RC has a conversation with Tassoula Karaiskaki, journalist of "Kathimerini of Sunday" and explains the function of Greek technology for computers that collect data, by answering complex questions.

"I personally saw the birth of the Internet; through Windows it opened a window to the world. I experienced the first browser, the appearance of e-mail, Wikipedia – who has an encyclopedia at home today?–, the explosion of smart phones, the transfer of computers from our desks to our pockets, the spread of social networks, virtual reality... Applications, have been transferred from the desktop computer to our hand; users of any age can complete everything by moving their fingers. Contacts are intuitive, there are no user manuals anymore, everyone knows how to use an app" says Mr. Katsouros. "My daughters, in the 2nd grade of lower secondary education  and 2nd grade of upper secondary education, take Internet for granted, like electricity. Imagine what will happen if after the energy crisis we experience a data crisis! It's amazing how interconnected we are."
