The Research Institute for the Digital Humanities and the Joint MSc Programme in Digital Humanities of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens are organising an online workshop entitled “Humanities and Technology: A Creative Synergy” on Friday, 15 May 2026, from 09:00 to 17:00, via Webex.
The workshop highlights the growing dialogue between the humanities and contemporary digital technologies, addressing both the theoretical and practical dimensions of the field. The program brings together scholars and specialists working on Digital Humanities, classical studies and digitality, historical geography, 3D reconstruction technologies, accessibility to cultural heritage, data analytics, interactive digital storytelling, digital philology, artificial intelligence, LLMs, GIS, and emerging methodological shifts in research and education.
The event aims to demonstrate how technological innovation can enrich, extend, and transform humanities research without replacing its critical, interpretative, and historical foundations. Rather than treating technology as an external tool, the workshop approaches it as a creative partner in the production, analysis, preservation, and communication of cultural knowledge.
Researchers from the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) of the Athena Research Center will have a particularly strong presence, with presentations highlighting the interdisciplinary connection between Language Technology, Artificial Intelligence, digital technologies, and the Humanities. A welcome address will be delivered by the Director of ILSP, Dr. Vassilis Katsouros.
The interdepartmental Master’s Program in ‘Digital Humanities’ is co-organized by the University of Athens, the University of Cyprus, and the Athena Research Center.
The workshop is open to the public.
