On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Eustratios Simopoulos, MP for Thessaloniki and President of the Special Permanent Committee on Research and Technology, visited the Athena Research Center. He was welcomed by the President of Athena, Professor Ioannis Emiris, and they had a brief discussion as part of Mr. Simopoulos's information session.

 

The heads of the Institutes and Units of Athena were also present to inform him about their research directions and the institutional issues they face. They discussed topics related to research and development, the connection between research and industry, as well as the promotion of women in Research and Innovation, which is strongly supported at Athena. Finally, Mr. Simopoulos requested information about the first Center of Excellence in Robotics that is set to operate at Athena.

 

At the end of the visit, Mr. Emiris expressed his gratitude to Mr. Simopoulos, stating: "The visit of the Chairman of the Research Committee of the Parliament was particularly useful, as there was significant interest in the innovation developed at Athena, and we also discussed organizational and institutional matters. We maintain excellent relations with Mr. Simopoulos, and we exchanged invitations for future events and visits".

 

For his part, Mr. Simopoulos remarked: "Today, I visited the Athena Research Center and spoke with the President about organizational and research issues. With the Institute of Language and Speech Processing, the Athena Research Center demonstrates the significant contribution of innovation to 'Humanities' areas, such as inclusion, while the Women's Innovation Unit contributes to the state's efforts to enhance women's entrepreneurship".
