On Wednesday, May 7th, we had the pleasure of welcoming 20 students and 4 teachers from the 4th Junior High School of Ano Liosia to the Athena Research Center. A few days later, on Monday, May 12th, we were visited by 22 students and 2 teachers from the Model General Lyceum of Agioi Anargyroi.
These visits took place within the framework of the European project #Code4Europe and the “Girls in Digital” campaign, highlighting the need for greater participation of girls in the digital sector and promoting computational thinking as a key skill. Athena is participating in the #Code4Europe project through its Innovation Unit for Women.
Through hands-on activities, students engaged with modern technologies, developed their critical thinking skills, and became familiar with fundamental principles of computer science and scientific methodology. Special emphasis was placed on the concept of open science, as participants were invited to analyze scenarios to determine whether a news item was true, false, or misleading—based on documented analysis and discussion.
One of the day’s most memorable moments was the interview with researchers from the Archimedes Unit of the Athena Research Center, who shared their experiences in the field of computer science and spoke about their career paths. The students listened with interest, drawing inspiration from realistic and relatable role models for their future in the digital world.
The students’ participation was enthusiastic and active throughout the activities, confirming the need for more such initiatives to offer even more students the opportunity to enjoy this unique experience.
