Dr. Despina Tsiafaki, Research Director at the Institute of Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) of the Athena Research Center, and Dr. Natasha Michailidou, Collaborating Researcher at the Institute of Language and Speech Processing (ILSP), of Athena, were guests on the television show "Perimeter" on ERT3 to discuss the results of the "Echoes" project.
As they explained, visitors to the old town of Xanthi will be able to engage with the city's past through the use of a mobile application and interactive content specially designed with cutting-edge technologies, focusing on 3D sound.
"The revival of traditional settlements is attempted by utilizing sound as a way to perceive the environment of the past and the culture of a region" explained Dr. Despina Tsiafaki. This creates a condensation of time and a mosaic of soundscapes from the past culture, utilizing historical sources for virtual representation.
The research project Echoes aims to design and develop technological tools and methodologies for creating and presenting interactive content for visitors of cultural sites, with an emphasis on traditional settlements, through the adoption of the innovative methodology of experience reconstruction and the use of cutting-edge technologies, particularly 3D sound technology.
