Organization of the 2nd e-Prevention Challenge at ICASSP 2024

Co-organization: Institute of Robotics

19-02-2024

The Institute of Robotics is co-organizing the 2nd e-Prevention challenge: Psychotic and Non-Psychotic Relapse Detection using Wearable-Based Digital Phenotyping at the the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech & Signal Processing (ICASSP) 2024, the flagship conference of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS).

Emphasizing intricate research challenges and fostering research into novel and complex problems, particularly within the realm of healthcare robotics, remains a pivotal focus for the Institute of Robotics. The study of human activity and the development of innovative automatic systems capable of perceiving and learning the different aspects of human actions can give a boost to areas of robotics such as human-robot interaction.

Leveraging the expertise of the Institute of Robotics, the 2nd e-Prevention Challenge is dedicated to the detection of relapses. This involves exploring behavioral patterns derived from the daily activities of 40 people with mental disorders, recorded via bio-signals captured by smart devices. The competition relies on the extensive biomarker database, a cornerstone of the e-Prevention research project, which comprises over 20,000 days of activity recordings collected from 60 individuals utilizing smartwatches.

Teams from academia, industry and individuals experimented and submitted their approaches to the challenge. The top-5 solutions will present their applied methods and research conclusions.

During ICASSP 2024, April 14-19 in Seoul, we look forward to meeting conferees, competitors and non-competitors, for an extensive discussion on the topics of signal processing in mental health and relapse detection in people with mental disorders.
