National Artificial Intelligence Competition

10-12-2024

The ARCHIMEDES Unit of the Athena Research Center, in collaboration with the Hellenic Society of Computer Scientists and Professionals in Communications (GCP), the Hellenic Society for Artificial Intelligence (EETN), and the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP), announces the organization of the National Artificial Intelligence Competition (NAIC) for middle and high school students (www.pdtn.gr). The competition follows the standards of the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI, https://ioai-official.org/), offering participants the opportunity to develop skills in cutting-edge technologies, collaborate with industry experts, and represent Greece in the International Olympiad.

Objectives of the Competition
The NAIC aims to familiarize students with Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques such as machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. Participants are tasked with solving challenges based on modern AI applications, developing solutions with immediate and meaningful impact on real-world problems and social issues.

Organization and Phases
The competition is free for students and consists of three phases:

  1. Preliminary Phase - "Talos" (December 16, 2024 - March 5, 2025):

Students register individually on the NAIC website (www.pdtn.gr).
It is recommended to review the auxiliary material on the website to become familiar with the competition.
Solutions to the exercises will be submitted online to select the top participants.
Early engagement with the exercises is encouraged for better preparation.
Results from the preliminary phase will be announced online.
  1. Final Phase - "Pandora": The final will be held in person, where students who advanced from the Preliminary Phase - "Talos" will be examined. The examination will take place in computer labs in Athens, on a date to be announced.

  1. International Olympiad: The top 4 students from the Final Phase - "Pandora" will represent Greece at the International AI Olympiad, which will be held from August 2-9 in Beijing, China, with travel and accommodation expenses covered.

Vision
The central aim is to broaden and deepen the knowledge of middle and high school students in the field of AI, as well as to introduce them to the world of AI. The competition creates an ecosystem of collaboration, learning, and excellence in the field of AI.
Talent Cultivation in AI
The NAIC provides a platform for students to showcase their skills in AI and compete with other talented students from across the country. The competition helps identify and nurture students passionate about AI, encouraging them to pursue careers in this rapidly growing field.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
The NAIC offers students the opportunity to work on challenging AI problems and develop creative and innovative solutions. Through this process, students will enhance their critical thinking and engage with AI techniques that are widely used in the modern world.

Providing Educational Opportunities
The NAIC invites leading AI experts to serve as mentors for the competition. This gives students the chance to learn from the best in the field and receive feedback on their work.

Innovation in AI
The NAIC encourages students to think creatively about AI and develop new and innovative ways to solve real-world problems. The competition helps identify and promote promising new AI technologies and applications.

Collaboration
The NAIC offers a unique opportunity for students from different regions of Greece to come together and learn from each other. The competition fosters collaboration and teamwork among students and teachers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
