On Thursday, September 12, the exhibition "The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean" was inaugurated at the Athena Research Center, celebrating the lives and achievements of women scientists and researchers from the Mediterranean region who have received the prestigious Marie Curie scholarships from the European Union and/or contribute to this legacy through their work.

 

Dr. Tasos Gaitanis, General Secretary for Research and Innovation, had the opportunity to tour the exhibition during his visit to the central offices of Athena that same day, expressing his interest and support for similar initiatives.

 

The exhibition is presented at the facilities of the Athena Research Center in the central offices in Athens, as well as in Xanthi.

 

"The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean" consists of 32 panels that provide a more intimate view of each researcher. Each panel includes a biography that spans their childhood and motivations to their university studies and professional achievements. It also highlights the impact of the Marie Curie scholarships on their careers and offers insights into their interests and family lives.

 

The exhibition has been translated into nine languages and has been presented in various countries across four continents, representing scientists and researchers from 22 countries, 19 of which are Mediterranean. Its main goals are to inspire younger generations, showcase the cultural richness and scientific talent of the Mediterranean region, and increase the visibility of women in science and research.

 

"The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean" has been designed by El Caleidoscopio and the Marie Curie Alumni Association, partners in the MEDNIGHT consortium, which includes the Athena Research Center and SciCo in Greece.
