Researchers from the
Information Management Systems Institute (IMSI) and the
ARCHIMEDES Research Unit of
Athena Research Center presented their collaborative work with the University of Ioannina, on the
2026 ACM Web Conference and the co-located
BeyondFacts '26 Workshop that took place as virtual events (June 29-July 3, 2026).
Their work, titled "EmeraldApp: An AI-Driven Tool for Detecting Greenwashing in Sustainability Claims", co-authored by Georgios Kaoukis, Ioannis Aris Koufopoulos, Eleni Psaroudaki, Danae Pla Karidi, Evaggelia Pitoura, George Papastefanatos, and Panayiotis Tsaparas, received the Best Paper Award at the 6th International Workshop on Computational Methods for Online Discourse Analysis (BeyondFacts '26).
The paper presents EmeraldApp, an AI-powered tool for the automatic detection of greenwashing practices in corporate sustainability claims. The tool combines retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) with a specialised ESG knowledge graph, delivering evidence-based decisions and explanations grounded in corporate ESG reports (
