Athena Welcomes a New Researcher to Its Family

Thanasis Vergoulis Appointed Principal Researcher at the Information Management Systems Institute (IMIS)

The Athena family recently welcomed a new member. Thanasis Vergoulis was recently elected and assumed his duties as Principal Researcher at Athena.
 
Thanasis is a graduate of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Patras. He completed his doctoral dissertation titled "Advanced search and data management services in Life Sciences" under the supervision of Professor Timos Sellis and has been a research associate at Athena for the past 10 years.
 
As a Principal Researcher at IMIS, he will focus on the field of Data Science: Algorithms, Systems, and Visualization Tools. Speaking about his new position, he stated:
"I am truly delighted and eager to serve the Athena Research Center from this new role. Being selected by the committee is a great honor for me, and at the same time, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to meet expectations. My goal is to contribute with all my strength to ensure that Athena continues to lead applied research in Greece and Europe."
 
The Chairman of the Board and General Director of Athena, Professor Υiannis Emiris, stated:
"It is always a great pleasure to welcome a new member to our team of permanent researchers, especially this time, as it concerns an outstanding collaborator who will undoubtedly bring a lot to the Institute and the Center. Welcome, Thanasis, and best of luck in your new role!"
