The
Athena Research Center announces the Inaugural Event of the
Hellenic Robotics Center of Excellence – HERON, which will take place on
Thursday, April 3, 2025, from
09:30 to 15:00, at the
Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation in Athens.
This event marks the launch of Greece’s first Center of Excellence focusing on Robotics Technologies in the era of Artificial Intelligence. It will host distinguished scientists, policymakers, industry representatives, members of the research community, and HERON’s international partners.
HERON has secured long-term funding of €35 million from the Horizon – Teaming for Excellence European program, matched by funding from the General Secretariat for Research & Innovation of Greece, along with contributions from numerous private sponsors. The project is implemented by the Athena Research Center, in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
With a primary goal of advancing robotics science and technology, HERON focuses on applications such as:

Safety/Security Robotics

Field robotics (agriculture, maritime, transportation)

Healthcare robotics and social robotics

Establishment of Makerspaces and strengthening the Greek robotics ecosystem
The HERON Hellenic Robotics Center of Excellence is a flagship initiative with ambitious goals in key areas of robotics in the era of Artificial Intelligence. Its success is expected to positively impact technology, economy, security, education, healthcare, and ultimately, the prosperity of our country.
