Athena Research Center at the Athens Science Festival

19-12-2025 to 21-12-2025

How does a computer learn to recognize Greek dialects? Can artificial intelligence converse like a true local? How do we communicate with a robot? And in what ways can science and technology make the Christmas season even more magical?

The Athena Research Center is once again participating in the Athens Science Festival, which will take place from December 18 to 21, 2025 at the Athens Conservatory, and invites you to join us in celebrating the biggest science and innovation festival in Greece, this time with a festive, holiday sparkle!
Inspired by the spirit of the season, our teams present interactive exhibits and hands-on workshops that highlight the role of technology in everyday life as well as in creative learning. Artificial intelligence, robotics, data, and digital applications become part of a festive journey of knowledge for all ages.

Interactive Exhibits

Kri-Kri – Conversing with Artificial Intelligence
Discover an AI system that “speaks’’ Greek fluently and can converse with you in real time.

Vitalia - Playing… Healthily
An interactive game that teaches us a healthy lifestyle through clever challenges and choices.

Robobo - Communicating with a Robot
Learn how we set goals for a robot, how it perceives its environment, and how we track its movement progress.

Popeye - How Is Our World Changing?
An innovative educational platform that helps us understand population changes and how they affect our daily lives.

PSLifestyle - The Carbon Footprint of Our Life
Take the test and discover how your everyday habits impact the environment.

Bipedal Robot – Walking Through Gravity and Technology
Discover how a robot can walk using only the force of gravity! See how it transforms from a passive walker into an active one with the addition of motors, and how it can navigate different types of terrain.

Robotics for Safety and Rescue – Technology with a Human Mission
Meet robots that explore hazardous areas, detect and collect waste, or collaborate to enhance public safety. Robotics at the service of environmental protection and human life.

Robots & AI – Technologies Bringing the Future Closer
Interact with robots and explore how embedded Artificial Intelligence technologies enable them to navigate, recognize objects and faces, and support applications in health and education.

Minecraft… in Another Dimension!
Experience Minecraft like never before! Using VR glasses and the capabilities of 6G, step inside the world you create and enjoy an entirely new gaming experience.

Soft Robotics – Gentle Grippers for Smart Agriculture
See up close an “intelligent” electromagnetic gripper specially designed for harvesting delicate fruits. Soft robotics reduces damage during collection and opens new horizons in precision agriculture.

Digital Vineyard Inspection – Precision Agriculture in 3D
Try out software that inspects and reconstructs a vineyard in three dimensions. An innovation that supports smart, high-precision crop monitoring.

LUSI – A Sustainability Strategy in a Board Game
Design land uses through the interactive game LUSI! Presented by the Global Climate Hub, this strategic experience, inspired by the landscapes of Southern Europe, invites us to think sustainably.

Workshops

Sunday, December 21 - 16:30
Mothers & Daughters in the World of Robotics
For ages 10 -16
An introductory robotics workshop that encourages teamwork, creativity, and familiarity with technology through a unique duo: mothers and daughters.

Sunday, December 21 - 18:00
“Ínta Laleís?”: Artificial Intelligence Learns Greek Dialects
For ages 12+
Participants explore how artificial intelligence can record, understand, and process Greek dialects through interactive examples.
