Sustainability at the Heart of the Global Dialogue in Davos

30-01-2026

Professor Phoebe Koundouri, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at Athena Research Center, actively participated in this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, contributing to the global dialogue on sustainable development, trade, and governance.

During the Forum, and in partnership with Frontiers Science House, Athena Research Center, AE4RIA, and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the Sustainable Development Unit co-hosted the session “The Hidden Costs of Global Trade: Building Sustainable and Resilient Supply Chains”. The discussion focused on how global trade can better align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while reducing systemic risks through science-based metrics, integrated data, and coherent policy frameworks.

Following the Forum, Professor Koundouri spoke with Naftemporiki TV, reflecting on the evolving global economic and geopolitical landscape, the governance challenges surrounding artificial intelligence, and the ongoing shift in climate policy from commitments toward concrete investment and implementation.

She emphasized that sustainable development requires science-based, data-driven policymaking placed at the core of economic and political decision-making processes.
