Approval of European Funding for the Establishment of the Hellenic Robotics Center
HERON to Transform the Robotics Landscape in Greece
The Athena Research Center is delighted and proud to announce that its Institute of Robotics has secured approval for a highly significant European project aimed at establishing a Center of Excellence in Robotics during the era of Artificial Intelligence, named HERON (Hellenic Robotics Center) and coordinated by the Athena President Prof. Ioannis Emiris.
The project, which spans six years, falls under the Widening - Teaming framework, with a total budget of around 35 million euros, co-funded by the European Union and the General Secretariat for Research & Innovation. HERON’s European partners include the Italian Institute of Technology and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
Congratulations to the entire team at the Institute of Robotics, especially Professors Petros Maragos and Evangelos Papadopoulos, for their vision and coordination. Special thanks also go to the researchers and the Proposal Support Office at Athena, who supported this effort with all their strength. This is a unique success that strengthens Robotics in our country and beyond. It paves new ways for the sector in Greece, for the entire Athena ecosystem, and for all those who contributed and will contribute in the future!
