An innovation marathon bringing together technology, healthcare, and health & wellness tourism will take place on 9 - 10 May 2026, simultaneously in Athens and Heraklion, Crete. The Hackathon “Reimagining eHealth in Crete”, organized within the framework of the smartHEALTH European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) activities, sets a common goal: to transform innovative ideas into practical solutions that can impact the lives of thousands of people.

 

The competition represents an important initiative for the assessment of health technologies, the development of innovative applications, the improvement of clinical trials, and the effective use of health data, aiming to enhance relevant processes, methods, services, and structures within public sector organizations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) involved in healthcare services and health & wellness tourism. Particular emphasis will be placed on proposals that can be implemented by the Health Region of Crete and providers of health and wellness tourism services in Crete, while priority will be given to solutions that can be scaled to a wider geographical level (nationally or across Europe).

 

The Hackathon is an initiative of the smartHEALTH EDIH, a European Digital Innovation Hub that supports the digital transformation of the healthcare and life sciences sectors. The Athena Research Center actively participates in the smartHEALTH network, contributing to the development and promotion of innovative digital solutions and services.

As part of the Hackathon preparation activities, an information webinar will be held on Monday, 16 March 2026, 13:00–14:30 (EET) via Zoom. During the webinar, potential participants will receive information about the challenges, the participation process, and the presentation format for their proposals.
