The Greek research community celebrated a significant success at the international ADBIS 2025 conference (23–26 September 2025), held in Tampere, Finland, with the active participation of the Athena Research Center.

The Best Paper Award was awarded to the research paper titled “Pasteur: Scaling Privacy-aware Data Synthesis”, which introduces an innovative system for generating synthetic data with a strong focus on privacy and scalability to billions of records. The authors are: Antheas Kapenekakis (Aalborg University and PhD candidate in the EU joint doctoral program DEDS at Athena Research Center, co-supervised by Minos Garofalakis, Katja Hose, and Daniele Dell’Aglio), Daniele Dell’Aglio (Aalborg University), Martin Bøgsted (Aalborg University Hospital), Minos Garofalakis (Athena Research Center), and Katja Hose (TU Wien).

The Best Demonstration Award was presented to the team behind TimeVizBench, an interactive platform for evaluating large-scale time series visualization techniques. The project began as an MSc thesis by Christos Pantoleon (Athens University of Economics and Business) and developed into a widely recognized tool through the collaboration of Vasilis Stamatopoulos (Athena Research Center & University of Ioannina), Stavros Maroulis (Athena Research Center), George Papastefanatos (Athena Research Center), and Panos Vassiliadis (University of Ioannina).

These two distinctions underscore the international impact of the research carried out at Athena in the fields of data visualization and large-scale data management with a focus on privacy.
