The
ExtremeXP project was successfully completed in
February 2026, marking a major milestone in advancing experimentation‑driven, user‑centric data analytics in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
The project brought together 21 European partners to develop a unified framework that integrates machine learning, visual analytics, explainable AI, and decentralized trust technologies. The framework is specifically designed to simplify the design, training, and management of complex AI pipelines, thereby enabling the development of novel AI applications that are more transparent, reliable, and human-centered.
Athena Research Center through the Information Management Systems Institute coordinated the project and played a key role in the design of novel Data Integration, AI Explainability and Observability methods. It also contributed to the development of novel TRL6 observability tools such as
ExperimentLens; a powerful visual dashboard designed for the interactive exploration and monitoring of complex AI pipelines. The tool enables human-in-the-loop interaction, allowing users to better understand, evaluate, and trust AI-driven processes.
The ExtremeXP technologies are key enablers for next‑generation data‑driven decision support systems and support the development of scalable, collaborative, and trustworthy data ecosystems around Data Spaces, Data Labs, and AI factories.
