APPLIED RESEACH FOR AUTONOMOUS ROBOTIC SYSTEMS

The project deals with Autonomous Robotic Systems and is carried out within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. The project focuses on both basic and applied research, ensuring the Institute's close interconnection with universities and research centers. Additionally, the project includes actions for procuring equipment and software, as well as renovating the Institute's building.

The purpose of the project is a) to conduct basic and applied research in three broad areas of Autonomous Robotic Systems in the era of Artificial Intelligence, and b) to develop supporting research facilities (Labs and MakerSpace):

  1. Safety and Security Robotics. Autonomous robotic systems using AI algorithms: i) Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), ii) Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs), iii) Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs). iv) Drones.
  2. Field Robotics. Research and development of intelligent robotic systems for i) Agriculture, ii) Shipping, iii) Logistics and Transport, iv) Construction Industry.
  3. Health and Social Robotics. Development of innovative technologies and intelligent robotic systems: i) Surgical and Interventional Robotics, ii) Kinesiology and Cognitive Assistive Robotics, iii) Socially Supportive Robotics.
  4. Research Facilities Development: Development of i) research facilities for the three areas aimed at internal development, experimentation, and testing of robotic systems combined with specialized software ii) a Makerspace to produce robotic systems that will serve all internal research areas.
