The DEMOSTEN project aimed at the compilation of a multilingual lexicon (Danish, English, French, German, Greek, Portuguese and Spanish) consisting of the basic words required in foreign language acquisition, as well as the compound expressions in which these participate. The choice of these words and expressions has been based on corpus-based studies for the identification of the most frequent words of the French language, since French was the source language of the project. The project resulted in the compilation of bilingual lexica from French into the other project languages, containing around 5,600 words and expressions.
