European Language Data Space Country Workshop – Greece

A discussion on infrastructures, data, and synergies shaping the future of AI in Greece

17-11-2025
Amphitheatre, Ministry of Digital Governance

The European Language Data Space (LDS) and the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) of the Athena Research Center are co-organising a high-level workshop that brings together experts from Greek industry, public administration, and the research community. The event aims to highlight the importance of language data in developing language technologies and Artificial Intelligence services for the Greek language.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Amphitheatre of the Ministry of Digital Governance (Fragoudi 11 & Alexandrou Pantou, 17671, Kallithea).

The Common European Data Spaces are EU initiatives designed to create a unified and interoperable data-sharing ecosystem across Europe. They ensure secure and trustworthy data exchange, while enabling businesses, public sector organisations, and individuals to retain full control over their data. Aligned with the European Data Strategy, the EU is currently supporting the creation of data spaces across key strategic sectors such as health, mobility, energy, cultural heritage, and language.

Within this framework, the design and implementation of the European Language Data Space (LDS) began in early 2023. In a multilingual Europe where Language Technologies and AI applications are playing an increasingly crucial role, LDS aims to significantly increase the availability of high-quality language data for all EU languages, through a reliable, secure, and efficient data marketplace for sharing language resources.

As part of a series of workshops held across EU Member States, the LDS consortium and the European Commission aim to raise awareness among businesses, research groups, and public administrations about this new ecosystem for data sharing and governance.

The Greek workshop will focus on the needs of Greek stakeholders, both public and private, whether as providers or users of language data. Discussions will address the technical, economic and strategic aspects of data sharing for the advancement of AI technologies.

The workshop will also present parallel initiatives and national/EU projects accelerating the development of AI in Greece. A dedicated session will spotlight “Pharos – the Greek AI Factory,” exploring synergies and complementarities between the two actions.

The workshop is addressed to data holders and providers, as well as organisations developing AI solutions and Large Language Models (LLMs) for the Greek language, and officials from public administration and policy-making bodies.

The event will be honoured by the presence of Mr. Yiannis Mastrogeorgiou, Special Secretary of Foresight Strategy at the Presidency of the Hellenic Government, and Mr. Vassilis Karkatzounis, Special Secretary for AI and Data Governance at the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, who will deliver remarks and participate in the discussions.
