The 4th General Lyceum of Xanthi, within the framework of the European Parliament Ambassador Schools Programme (EPAS), is organizing an open public event on Monday, March 30, 2026 (16:00–20:00), co-organized with the Athena Research Center.
The event will take place at the premises of the Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) of the Athena Research Center in Xanthi, with the support and contribution of the Institute.
At a time when algorithms increasingly influence employment, access to information, public services, and our fundamental rights, a crucial question arises: the issue is not only what Artificial Intelligence can do, but also who sets the rules governing its operation.
The event focuses on the relationship between Artificial Intelligence, democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights within the European Union. It will also highlight the role of European institutions and the European Parliament in shaping a regulatory framework that ensures transparency, accountability, and the protection of citizens in the era of algorithmic governance.
Students, researchers, and institutional representatives will engage in an open dialogue on how Europe seeks to balance technological innovation with the protection of human rights. In this context, the local community of Xanthi becomes part of a broader European conversation about the future of technology and democracy.
This initiative is part of the school’s broader educational mission to cultivate active, informed, and democratically engaged European citizens, citizens who participate actively in shaping the technological challenges of the future.
