Digital toolset for the analysis, promotion and protection of the Greek cultural reserve in small cultural institutions

Identifying and quantifying the economic value of cultural heritage goes far beyond visiting museums or visiting archaeological sites. The potential economic return from the assignment of greater economic value to the cultural heritage is enormous but untapped. Often, resources to support cultural efforts are inadequate and cannot be a driving force for sustainable growth and job creation. In the promotion and preservation of the cultural heritage, local cultural bodies and museums in particular have a prominent role as they have a more direct relationship and a greater relevance with local society and local culture. Local cultural institutions, typically, do not have the administrative support and tools that will enable them to do their important work effectively and to raise the necessary financial resources required by their operation. Smaller cultural institutions, such as those with a local reach, have an important mission, but also have limited administrative, financial and technical resources. Recognizing the great importance of small cultural institutions in the promotion of culture, and their impact in the society and the economy, and, at the same time, their significantly reduced access to administrative, funding and technical resources, this proposal proposes the design and implementation of a framework, method and digital tools for the economic viability, sustainability and development of small cultural institutions. The proposal focuses on the development of a sophisticated digital toolkit for the analysis of the assets of cultural institutions and the development of good practices of exploitation and sustainability for the effectively protection of the Greek cultural heritage.
