Press Release - A collaboration between "Athena" RC and Google, in the framework of the global initiative #IAmRemarkable, with the aim to encourage women to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond.

On Tuesday, March 14th, 2023, "Athena" Research Center organized a workshop aimed at empowering working women through Google's #IAmRemarkable global initiative, on the occasion of International Women's Day. The workshop was intended to help women at "Athena" RC present their achievements confidently, without feeling ashamed or guilty.

The workshop was attended by distinguished guests, including the Deputy Minister of Research and Technology, Christos Dimas, and the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Maria Syregela. Representatives from Google included Thomai Stavropoulou, Sales Manager for major customers, and Spyridoula Drakopoulou, who presented the workshop.

The interactive workshop was hosted by the Innovation Unit for Women at "Athena" RC's premises. Eleni Petra, Head of IUW, coordinated the Unit's efforts to support and promote female innovative entrepreneurship in Greece. The #GIL4W network of the Gender Equality Committee of "Athena" RC and the Network of Gender Equality Committees of Greek Research Centers & Independent Research Institutes also supported the workshop.

The workshop used the innovative ideas of the Google initiative to encourage the female employees of "Athena" RC to speak openly about their achievements and celebrate their work confidently. Participants were urged not to feel disadvantaged and to recognize all they had achieved as professionals. Surveys conducted before the initiative revealed that a large percentage of women did not recognize their work as professionals. The #IAmRemarkable initiative aims to empower women to feel satisfied and happy about their achievements.

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Maria Syregela, praised the organizers of the workshop for inspiring and empowering women in their professional and personal lives. She expressed support for initiatives that fight outdated stereotypes, prejudices, and gender inequalities.

During the event, "Athena" RC President Ioannis Emiris, welcomed the initiative and announced that it would be expanded to empower all employees and transferred to "Athena" RC's Institutes in Patras and Xanthi. He thanked the political leadership and Google executives for attending the event. The Head of the Innovation Unit for Women, Eleni Petra, thanked the contributors and briefly referred to the Unit's first year of action toward dynamic support of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Thomai Stavropoulou from Google acknowledged the challenges women face and stressed the need to do more to address gender discrimination. She emphasized the positive impact of the #IAmRemarkable initiative, which aims to assist women in every profession to talk openly and unashamedly about their achievements.
