Climathons in Greece
Climathon is a 24-hour ideathon that provides the platform for citizens and decision-makers to work together to create a better future. Climathons mission is to connect cities, towns and regions with their citizens to catalyse systemic change and to create climate-resilient communities.
Climathon is an initiative of EIT Climate-KIC and run independently by organisations with knowledge of local ecosystems in hundreds of cities, towns and regions across the globe seeking to catalyse systemic change and to create climate-resilient communities. Until today, Climathon has managed to unite 200 major cities, in 65 countries and 6 continents, supporting innovative actions in the context of the urban environment and hosting over 9,000 participants!
More than ever, the power of innovation in cities must be leveraged to reinforce climate action and to create a zero-carbon world in communities on every continent. Therefore, our global community of change-makers is taking an active role in their local ecosystems by brainstorming solutions to real-world climate challenges.
In the last 5 years, 20 Climathons have been organized in 11 Greek cities (Athens, Agia Paraskevi, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Larisa, Volos, Thebes, Corfu, Heraklion, Chania and Mytilini) and one cross continental Climathon on sustainable islands in Greece and Japan orchestrated by EIT Climate-KIC Greece Hub, led by ATHENA RC-SDU. At the heart of the initiative are the Climathon organizers in each city, who support and promote the movement around the world. Municipalities, businesses, schools and universities, experts and non-experts, young people and parents are invited to join this journey of co-creating new solutions.
