On 8th and 15th December 2021, "Athena" Research Center organized a two-part Circular Economy workshop for representatives of local governments. This workshop is part of the Circular Economy Beacons project (co-funded by EIT Climate-KIC) that aims to build an eco-system for circular, climate-related innovation that catalyzes systemic transition in sequences from experiment through collaboration to implementation. Circular Economy Beacons is led by Cirecon - Circular Economy Services, "Athena" Research Center, Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, Cleantech Bulgaria, Timis Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.
The workshop tackles the following objectives:
  • Provide expertise for municipalities to support fast knowledge and practice distribution on cutting edge circular solutions.
  • Support circular innovation adoption
  • Support best-practice and metric driven policymaking for low-carbon, systemic CE catalyzation
  • Guide regional supply chains through circular transition
The training consists of two major parts. In the first part in 2021, the participants will be introduced in the Circular Economy approach. In the second part that will be held in 2022, Athena RC experts will work with the participants together on a project to increase the positive impact of circularity throughout the region in a collaborative way. In this workshop representatives from the municipalities of Trikala, Larissa and Thessaloniki were present.
