Athena RC / Institute for Language and Speech Processing participated in the project entitled Augmented reality applications for the promotion of the cultural wealth of Samos: Discovering the natural beauty and the gastronomy of the island» that has been implemented in the framework of  "North Aegean Operational Progamme  2014-2020" of the Municipality of Eastern Samos.

The project was implemented by Omega Technology in collaboration with Athena RC, the Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering of the University of the Aegean and "DOTSOFT".

The aim of the project was to record and promote the complex Samian cultural wealth and the uniqueness of the gastronomy of Samos (meals, desserts, drinks, wine, etc.), as well as to develop a digital platform aiming at promoting the gastronomic tourism of Samos and ensuring high quality tourism experiences with the use of modern technologies.

Athena RC undertook the obligation of organizing the content (description, recipes, dietary information, cultural information) in the form of a thesaurus, developing and translating the textual material in 4 languages (Greek, English, German, Turkish) as well as submitting the Wikipedia entries.

The project outcomes are the following:

Α. www.samosfood.gr with 14 videos of traditional recipes made by well known Chefs of Samos and 50 more one minute videos for the preparation of traditional dishes, deserts, and drinks presented in three categories.

Β. An Android and IOS app  with more information on food as well as events, news, points of interest and routes relevant to the gastronomy of Samos. Using the app the visitors can also scan the Augmented Reality cards and see the 3D scanned models of the foods with much useful information (ingredients, recipes and videos on the preparation) in 4 languages.

The project and its outcomes have been presented in an event organized by the Municipality of Eastern Samos on May 6^th 2022, at the B. & M. Theocharakis Foundation in Athens.
