SCIENCE AGORA: FRESQO is qualified for the top five

19 teams took part in the Proof of Concept

13-10-2022

The team of the project FRESQO - Freshness RECording System for fish Quality Observation (Athena RC, FORTH, HCMR, University of Patras) has been qualified for the top five that will be financed for the implementation of its pilot program with the support of Google, within the Proof-of-Concept program of the Technology Transfer Hub SCIENCE AGORA.

The FRESQO Monitoring Tool is a portable platform that provides accurate information on the freshness of marine species (fish and mollusks) in real time without direct contact with the sample. This is possible with the introduction of cutting-edge technologies, namely Hyperspectral Imaging (MSI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and with leveraging an ever-expanding repository in real time.

The FRESQO team responded to the goals and call of SCIENCE AGORA - PoC with the aim of presenting the results of the project from which this technology originated (ESPA-EPANEK 2014-2020) and bringing FRESQO to a satisfactory state of maturity to respond to market needs. OKAA SA (Central Markets and Fishery Organizations SA) will be the supporting body that will assist the team to understand the requirements of the fishing area, thus contributing to the development of the system.

During the 2nd phase of the program, the 19 participating teams presented their business ideas to the Evaluation Committee, which consisted of company executives with many years of experience. The SciDrones, Run4more, Freshit and SILDI teams also qualified in the top five, along with the FRESQO team.

The Proof of Concept program on the topic of Environment and Energy constitutes an action of the SCIENCE AGORA Technology Transfer Hub. The program aims to support new business models and research groups in the form of funding (PoC Grants), consulting and networking with the market. Through this 7-month program, the teams will have the opportunity to implement their business proposal in a real environment and the researchers to turn their research ideas into commercial products.

Throughout the second phase, the 19 teams were supported by Science Agora with coaching and guidance for the development of business ideas, three training seminars were held on key issues in the development of a business idea and a Matchmaking & Networking Event was organized, with the participation of 25 companies.

SCIENCE AGORA is the partnership of the National Technical University of Athens, the Athens University of Economics, the National Centre for Scientific Research “DEMOKRITOS”, ATHENA RC and ICCS (Institute of Communication and Computer Systems) to create a Technology Transfer Hub. The goal is to create a network and one of the largest integrated ecosystems for the utilization of scientific research in Europe.
