Athena RC is the only Research Center in the country with an exclusive focus on Information and Communication Technologies, covering a wide range of applications and technology transfer in various fields, such as language technologies, sustainable development, digital culture and cybersecurity.

 

Maintaining a strong growth momentum, Athena RC is at the center of new developments this year with the most important being the foundation of the "Archimedes" Unit in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Algorithms, and the Robotics Unit, both funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The new Units complement in various ways the fields where Athena is already a leader and open new horizons for initiatives with an impact on society, from knowledge mining and decision making to autonomous vehicles, medical robotics and smart agriculture.

The expansion of the activities of Athena RC is based on a building program funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility that will upgrade its infrastructure in Athens, Patras and Xanthi. There has been a public announcement recently for the renovation of the privately owned building in Maroussi and the construction of the new building in Patras, whereas the studies for the two sub-projects in Xanthi (environment and renovation of a neoclassical building in the old town) have already been assigned. The public tender for the new building in Athens will be finalized soon.
